Blooming June came, the weather improved and we had a week of classes to look forward to with world renowned sugar florist Alan Dunn.
There was a very exotic and international feel to the week. Alan started with Pavonia, quickly followed by Frangipani to showcase the new cutters and veiners from Sugardelites in America. He also added an extra flower, Philesia on day one to keep us busy with homework the next day. Day two we had the pleasure of Abyssinian gladioli and the very exotic Bird of Paradise. He also gave us Caladium and Labisia foliage to include in our arrangements. The third day was filled with the Parachute vine, Leucodendron, Tacca (bat flower) and Indian bead lilac.
New cutters were produced for the parachute vine and are available along with all other supplies at A Piece of Cake shop or online at sugaricing.com
The classes were all via zoom giving participants the opportunity to interact with Alan and ask questions throughout. The sessions were all recorded and are available to purchase as individual topics on our website.
Sadly Alan has decided to take a break from the intensity of the zoom sessions and there will not be an online summer school this year. It is to be hoped that in 2022 we will have returned to some sort of normality and be able to resume our classes in Thame. We so miss our students in person, but it has been wonderful to see so many of you around the world joining our zoom sessions and we have great respect for those of you in different time zones getting up so early to join us. Your commitment is outstanding and we thank you.
Fear not, no summer school?! The team at APoC are working on an alternative. Debbie Bowyer from Sugar Floristry is putting a programme together as we speak to deliver in late August early September. Please keep an eye on our website for full details to follow soon.
In the meantime please share pictures of your work on our dedicated Facebook page...A Piece of Cake Inspirations. We really love to see your work whatever your ability level. We are all here to learn but just ask that you don’t advertise your business.
Keep an eye out too for our helpful tips and videos which include using isomalt, siligum to make veiners, different pastes and their uses.
Look out for our new product launches too. We are delighted to announce that we are collaborating with Framar to produce a range of cutters exclusive to APoC.
Remember too that we have a range of videos from Debbie at Sugar floristry. Debbie makes the process easy to follow and they are excellent value at only £10.
Until next time, happy sugar crafting.
